• Conditions of admission Admission requirements for the 2nd level of study Pursuant to section 56 par. 3 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education, as amended, the basic requirement for admission to a second-level study programme (section 53, paragraph 1 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education, as amended) is a completion of the first-level higher education or a second-level higher education, while the sum of the number of credits obtained for the previous higher education study, which resulted in a higher education degree, and the number of credits required for the proper completion of the second-level study programme for which the applicant is applying, must be at least 300 credits. For the purposes of the admission procedure for master's degree at the MBU Faculty of Law, a completed higher education degree according to the previous sentence means successful completion of studies in the law study programme. Officially certified copy of diploma on completion of bachelor's degree /or second-level studies pursuant to section 56 par. 3 of the Higher Education Act/ in the law study programme must be sent by 30 June 2026, but no later than the date of enrolment for studies. Additional admission requirements for full-time and part-time master's degree: - according to the order of the value of the weighted study mean from the bachelor's degree /or of previous studies of the second level pursuant to section 56 par. 3 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education as amended/, - bachelor's degree graduate /or graduate from previous studies of the second level pursuant to section 56 par. 3 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education as amended/ from another law faculty is required to submit a statement of study results as an attachment to the application. The number of admitted applicants will be in accordance with the approved planned number of admitted applicants for 2026/2027 academic year. Additional information The admission procedure for each level of study begins with the receipt of an application to the Faculty. The Faculty does not confirm receipt of the application. In the application, it is necessary to clearly indicate which form of study the applicant is interested in, whether in the admission to full-time or part-time study. The application for study is submitted separately for the full-time form of study and separately for the part-time form of study. In one "Application for higher education studies" form, only one form of study is indicated. In case of interest in both forms of study, it is necessary to submit two applications, i.e., separately for full-time and separately for part-time form of study and pay twice the admission fee. The MBU Faculty of Law prefers submission of electronic applications - in that case it is not necessary to send the application in paper form. Only if the applicant does not have the possibility to submit an electronic application, they can send the application in paper form to the address: Právnická fakulta UMB, Komenského 20, 974 01 Banská Bystrica (MBU Faculty of Law, Komenského 20, 974 01 Banská Bystrica) within the application deadline for the relevant degree –form of study. If the application is submitted in paper form, the 3rd page of the application form must have the applicant's handwritten signature. Certified copies of all documents required for the electronic version are attached to the paper application. If the application is submitted in paper form, it is necessary to stick a copy of the proof of payment of the admission fee to the 3rd page of the application (account statement, internet banking statement. The payment order is not a proof of payment, therefore it will not be accepted!). The MBU Faculty of Law does not require a medical certificate of medical fitness for higher education studies
• we accept an application without a medical certificate. The application for master's degree studies (2nd level) also includes a structured curriculum vitae (with the applicant's signature), an officially certified copy of the diploma on the completion of bachelor's degree studies in the field of law, or officially certified copy of the diploma on the completion of second level studies /pursuant to section 56 par. 3 of the Higher Education Act/ in the study field of law. Graduates of 1st level studies (or 2nd level studies pursuant to section 56 par. 3 of the Higher Education Act) from another law faculty are obliged to submit as an attachment to the application a certified copy of the diploma of completed previous studies in the field of law and a statement of study results for this previous study. The above does not apply to graduates of the 1st level of study (or even the 2nd level of study pursuant to section 56 par. 3 of the Higher Education Act) in the study field of law from the Faculty of Law of the MBU in Banská Bystrica. If applicants submit electronic applications, they must submit the documents that make up the application annex to the Study Office of the MBU Faculty of Law no later than on the day of enrolment, otherwise they will not be enrolled for studies. In the event that applicants have completed the 1st level of studies (or also the 2nd level of studies pursuant to section 56 par. 3 of the Higher Education Act) in the relevant academic year, they shall submit a certified copy of the diploma on completion of this study in the study field of law together with a statement of the results of the relevant study to the Study Office of the MBU Faculty of Law no later than on the day of enrolment, otherwise they will not be enrolled for the study. Conditions for international students Application deadline and the requirements for foreign students´ admission are identical with the ones applicable to the students from the Slovak Republic. Tuition fees are regulated by the Regulation on Tuition for the 2026/2027 academic year. Applicants who have completed their previous level of education abroad are required, in accordance with the relevant provisions of Act No. 422/2015 Coll. on the recognition of educational documents and professional qualifications and on amendments to certain acts, as amended, to submit recognition of educational documents obtained outside the territory of the Slovak Republic as follows: Applicants for bachelor's degree programs who have completed secondary education in one of the countries of the European Union (with the exception of the Czech Republic, where recognition of educational documents is not required), Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Russia, China, or Iceland are required to deliver by mail or in person a certificate of recognition of their level of education in paper form, together with a certified copy of their educational certificate (high school diploma) in paper form and its official translation into Slovak. Information on obtaining and using the certificate of recognition of foreign education can be found on the website of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic: Applicants for bachelor's degree programs who have completed secondary education in a country that does not have a recognition clause in place are required to submit, by mail or in person, an officially certified copy of the decision on the recognition of their educational document (secondary school leaving certificate) obtained outside the territory of the Slovak Republic. The decision on the recognition of foreign secondary education documents is issued by the regional school administration office in the seat of the region where the applicant has permanent residence, or by the Regional School Administration Office in Banská Bystrica: Applicants for master's degree programs who have completed their previous level of education abroad (except in the Czech Republic) are required to deliver by mail or in person an officially certified copy of the decision on the recognition of a document certifying higher education in the relevant field of study obtained outside the territory of the Slovak Republic. Information on the recognition of higher education documents is published on the website of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic: or on the website of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica: If an applicant for study does not submit a certificate of recognition of their level of education together with the required attachments by the time of verification of fulfilment of the conditions for admission to the given faculty (in the case of applicants for bachelor's studies who have completed secondary education in one of the EU countries with the exception of the Czech Republic, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Russia, China, or Iceland) or an officially certified copy of the decision on the recognition of the educational document (in the case of other applicants), they will be admitted conditionally. The applicant is required to submit the above documents no later than on the specified date of enrollment in higher education. Applicants for the study at any level who fail to demonstrate the fulfilment of the basic requirements for admission to study at the time of verification of the fulfilment of the requirements for admission may be conditionally accepted to study provided that they must prove the fulfilment of the requirements for admission no later than on the date of study enrolment. In all study programmes of the MBU Faculty of Law, applicants who have not passed the secondary school graduation exam in the Slovak language and are applying for a study programme conducted in the Slovak language must be fluent in the Slovak language at least at the B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The Faculty of Law exclusively accepts a certificate of command of the Slovak language as a foreign/second language at the required level (minimum B1), which is issued by language schools registered by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Slovak Republic in the Network of Schools and School Facilities of the Slovak Republic (registered state language schools and private language schools). Applicants must submit an officially certified copy of a document confirming knowledge of the Slovak language at the required level no later than on the day of enrolment for studies. Applicants who have completed (or will complete in the given academic year) a bachelor's or master's degree program in the Slovak language are exempt from the requirement to submit a certificate of proficiency in the Slovak language at the B1 level.
